James George Alexander Bannerman Carnegie, 3rd Duke of Fife was born on 23 September 1929 as the only child of and son of Charles Alexander Carnegie, 11th Earl of Southesk and Princess Maud Alexandra Victoria Georgina Bertha of Duff {Source}.
He was educated in Scotland and England {Source}. He attended Gordonstoun School and the Royal Agricultural College {Source}. From 1948-1950, he was part of the Malayan Emergency with the Scots Guards {Source}.
On 26th February 1959, approximately 10 days after the death of his father, he succeeded him as the 3rd Duke of Fife, The 3rd Earl of Macduff {Source}.
He married The Hon. Caroline Cecily Dewar on 11 September 1956{Source}. Together they have the following children and grandchildren{Source}:
