Royal Profile: Prince Nikolai of Denmark, Count of Monpezat

Prince Nikolai William Alexander Fredrik of Denmark, Count of Monpezat was born 28 August 1999, the elder of the two sons of Prince Joachim and Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg{Source}. His is the oldest of Queen Margarethe II and Henrik, Prince Consort's grandchildren{Source}. At present, he has one younger brother, one younger half brother and a younger half-sister, the half-siblings being from his father's second marriage to Princess Marie {Source}. Prince Nikolai was christened in chapel of Fredensborg Palace on 6 November 1999. At the christening the musical work Lys på din vej composed by Frederik Magle, dedicated to Prince Nikolai, was given its first performance.

  • Nikolai: is after his maternal aunt and one of his godmothers, Nicola Baird.
  • William: is after his maternal great-grandfather William Manley.
  • Alexander: is after his mother Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg.
  • Frederik: is a common name for Danish Kings, and is also the name of his uncle and one of his godfathers, Crown Prince Frederik.

On 16 April 2010, his paternal grandmother's 70th birthday, he received the Commemorative 70th Birthday Medal of Her Majesty The Queen.


He attended the Krebs School with his brother until the 2013-2014 school year. As of September 2014, Prince Nikoali began attending Herlufsholm School {Source}. On 18 May 2013, he was confirmed as a member of the Danish church {Source}
