Royal Profile: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was born 15 July 1948 as the third of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum's four sons {Source}.

He was educated in the UAE,  and England.

He began his education in the UAE at the age of 4, studying arabic and islamic studies. In 1955, he started his formal education at Al Ahmedia School. In 1958, he started attending Al Shaab School, before moving on to Dubai Secondary School. Along side his cousin, he attended the Bell Educational Trust's English Language School in the United Kingdom {Source}. After graduating from the Bell Educational Trust's English Language School, he began studying at the Mons Officer Cadet School (which later became part of Sandhurst), before traveling to Italy to train as a pilot.



On his return from military training to Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed's father appointed him head of the Dubai Police Forceand the Dubai Defence Force, which was later to become part of the Union Defence Force. Sheikh Mohammed has been responsible for the creation and growth of a number of businesses and economic assets of Dubai, with a number held by two companies under his ownership, Dubai World and Dubai Holding.

Sheikh Mohammed has twenty-three children, from different wives; nine sons and fourteen daughters, four daughters married into royal families in the Middle East.
