Royal Profile: Gerald Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster

Gerald Grosvenor, The 6th Duke of Westminster was born 22 December 1951 as the son of  Robert George Grosvenor, 5th Duke of Westminster and The Hon. Viola Maud Lyttelton. He had the following two sisters, siblings-in-laws and nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews:

The Duke of Westminster was educated at Harrow School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. In 2005, he became Chancellor of the University of Chester.

From the time of his father's death in 1979 until his own death in 2016, he served as Chairman of the Trustees of the Grosvenor Estate{Source}. The Duke supported charities and other institutions, which have included{Source}:

  3. Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University
  4. Chancellor of the University of Chester
  5. Chairman of the Nuffield Trust for the Armed Forces

The Duke is a countryman and enjoys country sports. He takes an interest in rural issues through organisations such as the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Atlantic Salmon Trust.

Upon graduation, he joined the military as a trooper in 1970{Source}. He commanded his own regiment, the Queen's Own Yeomanry in the 1990s {Source}. He was appointed as a Major General in 2003, and Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff for Reserves adn Cadets in the Ministry of Defence{Source}. Prior to his retirement in September 2012, he was Deputy Commander Land Forces{Source}.

From 2009 until his death, he pursued an initiative to create a Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre for Armed Forces {Source}. 

Gerald Grosvenor leaves behind his wife of nearly 38 years, Natalia, The Duchess of Westminster and the following children, children-in-law and grandchildren:

UPDATE:
A Private funeral was held for close relatives on 12 August 2016, with plans for a memorial later in the year. At the memorial I expect to see many British Royals, especially The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry of Wales at the very least {Source}
