Royal Profile: Queen Anne of Romainia

Princess Anne Antoinette Françoise Charlotte Zita Marquerite of Bourbon-Parma, now known as Queen Anne of Romainia was born 18 September 1923 as the only daughter of Prince René of Bourbon-Parma and Princess Margaret of Denmark{Source}. Through her mother, she is 2nd cousin 2x removed from Queen Margrethe II and her family through Christian IX of Denmark.

She grew up mostly in France. In 1939, her family fled from the Nazis to Spain. From Spain, they fled to Portugal then the United States. While in the US, she studied at the Parson's School of Design from 1940-1943{Source}. She worked as a sales assistant at Macy's. In 1943, she volunteered for military service in the French Army {Source}. She served in Algeria, Morocco, Italy, Luxembourg and Liberated Germany, where she drove ambulances, and eventually recieved the French Croix de guerre{Source}.

She met her future husband in London, and after only a week courtship, he asked for her hand in marriage {Source}. They were wed on 10 June 1948 in Greece, and have the following children, grandchildren and Great grandchildren{Source}{Source}:
