Royal Proffile: Leonor, The Princess of Asturias

Infanta Doña Leonor de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Ortiz, Princess of Asturias, Princess of Girona, Princess of Viana, Duchess of Montblanc, Countess of Cervera and Lady of Balaguer was born the eldest of two daughters of King Felipe VI & Queen Letizia on 31 October 2005{Source}. The young Princess of Austrias is also the second  youngest granddaughter of Queen Sofia and King Juan Carlos {Source}.

She has one younger sister:

Her godparents were her paternal grandparents, King Juan Carlos & Queen Sofia {Source).
According to the 1978 Spanish Constitution, since her parents have yet to produce a male heir (and likely won't, but you never know...), upon her father's succession as King of Spain in June 2014, she became Princess of Austrias and will later become Queen of Spain{Source}.

She began her education among the children of the Royal Guard at the Palace of El Pardo in 2007{Source}. She began attending Santa Maria de los Rosales, Arvaca in 2008, where she is presently in her 9th year (roughly around the 6th grade or so in the US system...I think.) at the school{Source}.
As a member of the Spanish royal family, she takes part in a range of public activities. In August 2011, she appeared with other members of the royal family on the yacht "Somni" during the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre Sailing Cup in Palma de Mallorca {Photos}. She took part in World Youth Day celebrations at the Zarzuela Palace in August 2011 with Pope Benedict XVI in attendance {Photos}.
She has attended the traditional Easter Mass in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013,2014 and 2015. In 2014, she gained a drastic change in her life-it was announced that her "abuelo" was abdicating in favor of her father...making her first in line. Since her father's enthronement, she has attended numerous events such as when her grandfather officially signed the abdication papers and her parents were enthroned, and the Spanish National Day military parade. In 2015, she attended her family's summer photocall, the 34th Copa del Rey Mapfre Sailing Cup Awards Ceremony, and the Spanish National Day military parade.

She shares a birthday with her father's 1st cousin (and her 1st cousin 1x removed), Doña María de Fátima Simoneta Luisa Gómez-Acebo y de Borbón and Princess Margretha of Sweden, Mrs. Ambler.

Through her grandparents, she is related to several monarchies including:

  • British: through Queen Victoria's youngest daughter Princess Beatrice. Infanta Leonor is Beatrice's greatx4 granddaughter through her grandfather. Through her grandmother, she is greatx4 granddaughter of Princess Victoria, Princess Royal.(Yes, that makes her grandparents 3rd cousins through Queen Victoria)
  • Greek: her grandmother is King Constantine's sister, making him her great uncle
  • Denmark: She is a great x6 granddaughter of Christian XI on her grandmother's side
For her 10th birthday, her father awarded her the Spanish Order of the Golden Fleece and her own personal standard {Source}. She speaks Spanish, English (with her grandmother and British nanny) and Chinese {Source}. In addition to her academic studies, she is also studying Spanish history, royal protocol, Catalan, among other topics a future Queen would need to know. Royal experts believe that like her father did before her, she will study abroad and undertake some military training at some point, likely in the next few years. She is only the second female to hold the title Princess of Asturias in her own right-the first was Queen Isabella II of Spain and Maria de las Mercedes, Princess of Asturias.

In October 2014, a wax figure of Leonor was unveiled at the Musea de Cera in Madrid {Source}.On 20 May 2015, Leonor had her first communion.
