Royal Profile: Patricia Lascelles, The Dowager Countess of Harewood

Patricia Elizabeth Lascelles, The Dowager Countess of Harewood was born 24 November 1926 as Patricia Elizabeth Tuckwell to Charles Tuckwell and Elizabeth Jane Norton Tuckwell {Source}. Patricia has one brother {Source}:

She was educated privately. Like her father, who was an organist and brother, who was a horn player, she too was gifted in music. The dowager Countess of Harewood pursued a career as a violinist for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. After her music career ended, she began modeling.

When she began modeling, she became a favorite model of Althol Shmith, whom she would later marry. After her marriage to Smith, she continued to model for him under the name Bambi Smith {Source}. During their marriage, she started the modeling school, Bambi Smith Modelling College in Melbourne{Source}. In 1951, she was one of the founders of Mannequins' Association of Victoria {Source}. Mrs. Shmith also pursued acting, appearing in a number of early programs on HSV-7, including Beauty is my Business with Mary Parker{Source}. Her marriage eventually faultered after 11 years and one son {Source}:

Ten years after her divorce from Althol Shmith, she married George Lascelles, The 7th Earl of Harewood on 31 July 1967, after meeting in Italy seven years earlier and giving birth to their only child when the Earl was still married to his first wife {Source}. Through her second husband, she has three stepsons, four former step-daughters-in-law, six step-granddaughters, five step-grandsons, and seven great-step-grandchildren {Source}:

 She and The 7th Earl of Harewood welcomed one son together, while he was still married to his first wife, and have three granddaughters a former daughter-in-law and a current daughter in-law{Source}:

During her years as The Countess of Harewood, she helped manage the family seat Harewood House, expanding it's visitor attraction by developing it as a center for bird conservation. She was also active in several charities:

  • Huntington Disease Association (patroness)
  • Leeds United (Club Patron from 2011-2017, then Honorary Club President)
The Countess died at Harewood House in May 4, 2018{Source}.

Her funeral took place on 18 May 2018 and was attended by Prince Michael of Kent and George, the Earl of St. Andrews.
