Royal Profile:Prince Akishino of Japan

Prince Akishino was born 30 November 1965, the second son of Emperor Akhito & Empress Michiko of Japan {Source}. The Prince has two siblings-The Crown Prince and  Princess Sayako{Source}.

Like his siblings education, his is also extensive. He holds a Political Studies degree from  Gakushuin University{Source}. After that, he moved to England to study at the University of Oxford for two years {Source}. In 1996, he recieved his PhD from the National University for General Research{Source}.

The second son and second in line for the Japanese Imperial Crown holds many honorary postitions. Some of these positions include {Source}:

  • Yamashina Institute for Ornithology(President) 
  • Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Japan Water Prize Committee, Waksman Foundation of Japan INC (honorary President)

  • Japan-Netherlands Society, Association for All Nippon Gourd Fanciers, (Honorary Patron) 
  • Researcher Extraordinary of the University Museum, the University of Tokyo
On 29 June 1990, he married Princess Kiko{Source}. Together they have the following children:
  • Princess Mako (1991) 
  • Princess Kako (1994) 
  • Prince Hisahito (2006)
