Mary Elizabeth Donaldson (aka Crown Princess Mary of Denmark) was born 5 February in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia the youngest daughter of John Dalgleish Donaldson and Henrietta Clark Horne Donaldson. She has three older siblings-two sisters and a brother, Jane, Patricia and John. As a girl, Mary was heavily involved in sports and other extracurricular activities both at school and elsewhere. She studied various instruments and played numerous sports. Her early love of horses led her to ride competitively as a teenager, on her horse, Diana. The Crown Princess began her education in the United States where her father was working at the time. She attended Sandy Bay Infants School, Waimea Heights Primary School, Taroona High School, Hobart College, and University of Tasmania.
