Royal Profile: Lady Emily Lascelles Shard

Lady Emily Tsering Lascelles-Shard was born 23 November 1975 as the eldest child and only daughter of The 8th Earl of Harewood and Margaret Rosalind Messenger {Source}. She has has three younger brothers, three sisters-in-law and two nephews{Source}:

Her paternal grandmother was The Princess Mary, The Princess Royal, the eldest daughter of King George V and Queen Mary {Source}, thus making her a 1st cousin 1x removed from Queen Elizabeth II via George V.

Lady Emily and her brother The Hon. Benjarmin were born out of wedlock, thus do not have claims to the British throne or Harewood titles {Source}. They were later legitimatized by their parents marriage, and the Privy Council, and were given titles benefitting children of a viscount, although not the rank or suceession rights that would've come with being born in wedlock.

Following her father's footsteps, Lady Emily is a film producer, and has worked as production coordinator and an assistant production coordinator for several high-profile films, including Syriana, Alexander, Cold Mountain, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (her cousin, Lady Rose Gilman, worked on Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince), Quills, all three of the Lord of the Rings trilogy films {Source}. She also served as production coordinator for the television series Man vs. Wild.

During a February 2008 Privy Council meeting her 1st cousin 1x removed, Queen Elizabeth II, gave Royal Consent to her marriage to Matthew Shard {Source}, and they were married later that same year. Together, they have three children{Source}:

  • Ida Shard (2009, twin)
  • Otis Shard (2011)
