Royal Profile: Doña Victoria Federica de Marichalar y de Borbón

Doña Victoria Federica de Marichalar y de Borbón was born on 9 September 2000 as the only daughter of Infanta Elena of Spain and her then husband Don Jaime de Marichalar{Source}. She has one older brother:



She is the grandchild of Queen Sofia of Spain and King Juan Carlos of Spain{Source}. Her godparents were her uncle, King Felipe VI and her aunt, Ana de Marichalar y Sáenz de Tejada.


As a member of the Spanish royal family, she takes part in a range of public activities. She made her first Holy Communion at the Dominicos Church, Alcobendas, Spain in 2009{Source}. In August 2011, she appeared with other members of the royal family on the yacht "Somni" during the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre Sailing Cup in Palma de Mallorca{Photos}. She took part in World Youth Day celebrations at the Zarzuela Palace in August 2011 with Pope Benedict XVI in attendance{Photos}. In August 2012, she appeared with her mother and brother at the Paralympics in London, where they attended a Reception at London’s Spanish Embassy for the Spanish delagation of Paralympic athletes, cheered on the Spainsh swimmers that were participating in the paralympics and visited the athletes's village. She is presently 5th in line for the throne after two cousins, mother and brother.

She attends Colegio San Patricio.

She is related to nearly every royal family in Europe.

  • Denmark: Queen Margrethe II is her 1st cousin 2x removed through Queen Victoria.
  • Greece: King Constantine II is her maternal great-uncle (her grandmother's brother). His wife is her 1st cousin 2x removed through Queen Victoria.
  • United Kingdom: Queen Victoria (her namesake's namesake...) was her great-great-great grandmother, via Princess Beatrice through her grandfather. Through her grandmother, she is a great-great-great-great grandchild of Queen Victoria on her grandmother's paternal side via Victoria, Princess Royal, and on the maternal side she is a greatx4 granddaughter of Queen Victoria also through Victoria, Princess Royal. 


She was named for various relatives:
  • Victoria: For her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria Eugenia
  • Fredrica: For her great-grandmother, Queen Fredrica
  • Todos los Santos (English: All Saints) : customary among the Bourbons, her brother and cousins also have this as part of their names

Since birth she carries the style "Her Excellency", as a former member of the Spanish Royal House and member of the Spanish Royal Family, she bears the title/style of the daughter of a Duchess and Infanta of Spain, HE Don/Doña style.
