Like her siblings, she has an extensive educational background. She spent her early years in Bhutan, before moving to the United States for University. She earned a bachelor's degree with majors in International Relationions and Economics from Wellesley College{Source}. She earned a master's degree in public administration from Columbia University{Source}.

She married Dasho Sangay Wangchuck on 13 October 2005{Source}. She and her husband reside in New York, where he is currently completing his master's degree in public administration and global affairs at Columbia University {Source}.She is currently 6th in succession for the Bhutanese throne.
