Grand Duke Henri Albert Gabriel Félix Marie Guillaume of Luxembourg was born 16 April 1955 as the eldest son of Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg{Source}.

He attended secondary school in Luxembourg, but soon after began studying in France. He earned his French baccalaureate in 1974{Source}. Upon graduating from his compulsory education, he began attending the University of Geneva, where he earned a political science degree with honors in 1980{Source}.
During his university years, he also visited other countries, most notably, the United States, where he gained practical work experience and studied{Source}. In 1974, he attended the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, and was commissoned as an officer in 1975{Source}. In 1989, He was appointed an Honorary Major of the Royal Parachute Regiment (UK){Source}. As Commander-in-chief of the Luxembourg Armed Forces, he holds the rank of General{Source}.As Honorary Chairman of the Board of Economic Development, established in 1977, he visited numerous countries around the world in order to promote investment opportunities in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (1978–2000){Source}.In 1980, He was appointed a member of the State Council, as a result of which he became familiar with the legislative branch of Luxembourg's parliamentary system (until 1998){Source}.

He is a Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.On 4 March 1998, he was appointed Lieutenant-Representative by his father, Grand Duke Jean, in accordance with Article 42 of the Constitution{Source}.On 7 October 2000, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Henri became Grand Duke of Luxembourg, succeeding his father Grand Duke Jean{Source}.
On 7 February 2008, he was appointed Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion in the Order of Malta{Source}.Upon his birth, his official title was His Royal Highness Prince Henri of Luxembourg, Nassau and Bourbon-Parma.
