Royal Profile: Prince Dasho Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck of Bhutan

Prince Dasho Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck was born 16 July 1984 as the second son of King Jigme Singye Wangchuck from Queen Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, which makes him third in line for the Bhutanese throne after his nephew and is a half brother to the present Bhutantese King. In addition to the King, he also has one full (and older) sister, and three other half brothers and three half sisters.

Like his brother, the young prince had a worldly education, being educated in Bhutan, the United States, and in England. He attended Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School before moving to the United States to attend Choate Rosemary Hall until 2003 (during which time the school was also attended by current first daughter, Ivanka Trump and James Lee Schroeder Jr, who graduated a few years ahead of the Prince). After graduation, he moved to England to attend St. Peter's College, Oxford to earn a degree in history and politics in 2007.

Like his other siblings, he takes responsiblity for Bhutan, and is often traveling to represent his elder half brother. In 2008, he was his brother's representative at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, delivering an speech, touring the festival and interacting with the festival's visitors {a festival that was most recently attended by Monégasque Royal Pauline Ducruet in 2017} {Source}. He is his brother's representative for the Bhutanese Olympic Committee {Source}.

Along with his brothers, he has interests in sporting activities such as archery, basketball and cycling {Source}. Together with his sister Princess Sonam Dechan, he is a member of the Executive Board of the Tarayana Foundation.
