Royal Profile: Alexandra Prinzessin von Hannover

Alexandra Prinzessin von Hannover was born as Alexandra Sophie Cecilie Anna Maria Friederike Benigna Dortha Prinzessin zu Ysenburg und Büdingen and is the second child of Otto Friedrich III Fürst zu Ysenburg und Büdingen and Felicitas Anna Eleonore Cecilie Prinzessin Reuss zu Köstritz {Source}. She was born on 23 October 1937{Source}. She has one older brother, and three younger {Source}.

In 1960, she married Prince Welf Henry of Hanover, who was the son of Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick and his wife Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia. Together, they had no children. However, they do have plenty of nieces and nephews and godchildren between them. Alexandra is the maternal aunt of Queen Sofia of Spain (she is Sofia's mother's sister) and King Constantine II of The Hellenes (brother to Queen Sofia). She is also godmother to her great nephew, Prince Ernest Augustus of Hanover (stepson of Princess Caroline of Hanover). Her great-niece, Princess Alexandra of Hanover is not named after her, but named after her own aunt Princess Alexandra of Leiningen. Princess Alexandra of Leiningen may be Alexandra Prinzessin von Hannover's goddaughter, but don't quote me on that one.

She has lived a relatively quiet life, and has been active in politics in Germany. Since 1980, she has represented the Frankfurt district of Nuederrand on the Frankfurt City Council {Source}. She is presently serving as Chairwoman of the Culture and Leisure Committee{Source}
