Royal Profile: King Felipe VI of Spain
King Felipe VI of Spain was born as the third child and only son of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia on 30 January 1968{Source}. He has two sisters{Source}:
He began his public duties when he proclaimed his allegence to his father on 22 November 1975 {Source}. He recieved the titles of Prince of Asturias, along with the Prince of Girona and Prince of Viana on 22 January 1977 {Source}. In 1981, he received the Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece {Source}. On his 18th birthday in 1986, he swore before parliement loyallty to the king, to faithfully perform funtions, observe and enforce the Constitution and laws, and rights of the citizens and the Autonomous Communities, assuming the fullness of its institutional role as successor to the Crown {Source}.
On 1 November 2003, his parents announced his engagement to commoner journalist, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano {Source}. The religous ceremony took place on 22 May 2014 in Spain {Source}. Together, they have two daughters:
- Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo
- Infanta Cristina, Duchess of Palma de Mallorca
- Felipe: in memory of the first Bourbon to reign in Spain
- Juan: His paternal grandfather, the Count of Barcelona
- Pablo: His maternal grandfather, King Paul (Pablo in Spanish) of Greece
- Alfonso: His paternal great-grandfather, King Alfonso XIII of Spain
- Juan de Borbon, Count of Bareclona (paternal grandfather)
- Queen Victoria Eugenia (paternal great-grandmother)
