In 1981, he received the Illustrious Order of the Golden Fleece {Source}. On his 18th birthday in 1986, he swore before Parliament loyalty to the king, to faithfully perform functions, observe and enforce the Constitution and laws, and rights of the citizens and the Autonomous Communities, assuming the fullness of its institutional role as successor to the Crown {Source}.
On 1 November 2003, his parents announced his engagement to commoner journalist, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano {Source}.The religious ceremony took place on 22 May 2004 in Spain {Source}.

In addition to his official activities, King Felipe is Honorary President of diverse Associations and Foundations, to whose activities he is especially committed, participating in working meetings and chairing the meetings of their Boards of Trustees. Hhe was a member of the Olympic Sailing team in the Soling class at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics{Source}. During the 1992 Olympics, he was the Spanish flagbearer{Source}.
His final result was that he came in 6th place overall being beat out by Denmark, USA anmd Great Britain{Source}. His sister, Infanta Cristina, participated in the previous Olympics, where she was also part of the Spanish sailing team and the country's flagbearer. His eldest sister, Infanta Elena is an equestrian, but has not participated in the Olympics.
