Princess Kalina grew up in Spain. She was educated at Lycée Francais de Madrid. She speaks Spanish, English, Italian, French, German and some Bulgarian{Source}.

On 26 October 2002, she married Antonio "Kitín" Muñoz y Valcárcel {Source}. Almost exactly four years later, the couple announced they were expecting their first child. Simeon Hassan Muñoz was born 14 March 2007, and he was named for his grandfather and close family friend, King Hassan of Morrocco {Source}.
Since 2015, she and her family have lived in Morocco{Source}.
