Royal Profile: Prince Alexander, The Duke of Södermanland

Prince Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, The Duke of Södermanland was born 19 April 2016 as the first child of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and Princess Sofia of Sweden {Source}. The little prince is a big brother {Source}{Source}:

  • Prince Gabriel Carl Walther, The Duke of Dalarna (2017)

He was baptized in September 2016, with the following as his godparents {Source}:

  • Crown Princess Victoria (paternal aunt)
  • Mrs Lina Frejd (maternal aunt)
  • Mr Victor Magnuson (paternal 1st cousin 1x removed)
  • Mr Jan-Åke Hansson (friend of his father)
  • Miss Cajsa Larsson (friend of his mother)

Prince Alexander is currently in 6th place for the Swedish throne, as well as distantly for the British throne as a greatx4 grandson of Queen Victoria through her sons Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn and Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany (Prince Alexander's paternal great grandparents were 2nd cousins).

He is named:

  • Alexander: A name his parents liked
  • Erik: for his maternal grandfather
  • Hubertus: for his paternal grandfather, Carl Gustaf Folke
  • Bertil: for his paternal greatx2 uncle, and his father's godfather, Prince Bertil, Duke of Halland
On 7th October 2019, his paternal grandfather announced that five of his grandchildren will no longer be members of the Royal House and lose their HRH status: Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas, Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel & Princess Adrienne, but will remain as members of the Royal Family, this was a move to streamline who would be eventually required to perform public duties and give those without HRH status more private lives {Source}{Source}. Because of this change, Prince Alexander will likely lead a fairly normal life, especailly compared to that of his cousins Estelle and Oscar as he will not be required to do public duties.
