Royal Profile: Princess Ariane of the Netherlands

Princess Ariane Wilhelmina Maxima Ines of The Netherlands was born 10 April 2007 as the youngest daughter of King Williem-Alexander & Queen Maxima of The Netherlands {Source}. She has two older sisters {Source}:

  • Princess Catharina-Amalia van Oranje (2003)
  • Princess Alexia of The Netherlands (2005)


She was baptized on 20 October 2007, with the following as her godparents {Source}:


  1. Ines Zorreguieta (maternal aunt)
  2. Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg (friend of her parents)
  3. Antoine Frilling (friend of her parents)
  4. Baron Tijo Collot d'Escury (friend of her parents)
  5. Valerie Delger (friend of her mother's)


With the abdication of her grandmother in 2012, she is presently 3rd in line for the throne after her two sisters {Source}. Her parents are determined to give her and her sisters a normal childhood-or as normal as can be with their parents as King and Queen.  Princess Ariane also enjoys many activities outside of the classroom, including piano lessons, ballet class, swimming and judo{Source}. 

She shares a birthday with her father's cousin, Prince Floris of Orange-Nassau, van Vollenhoven and Liechtenstein's Princess Tatjana.

She is named:

  • Ariane: an A name to "Complete the triple A rating" as her father put it.
  • Wilhelmina: for her greatx2 grandmother, Queen Wilhelmina
  • Maxima: For her mother
  • Ines: For her aunt and godmother, Ines Zorrguieta

She has been educated in The Netherlands. She and her sisters attended Bloemcamp primary school{Source}. Beginning in the fall of 2019, she joined her big sisters at Christian Gymnasium Sorghvliet.

 At a month old, in May 2007, she was admitted to Leiden University Medical Centre with a suspected lung infection {Source}


She speaks Dutch, Spanish and English.
