Royal Profile: The Infanta Leonor, The Princess of Austrias
The Infanta Doña Leonor de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Ortiz, Princess of Asturias, Princess of Girona, Princess of Viana, Duchess of Montblanc, Countess of Cervera and Lady of Balaguer was born the eldest of two daughters of King Felipe VI & Queen Letizia on 31 October 2005{Source}. She has one younger sister:
The young Princess of Austrias is also the second youngest granddaughter of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia {Source}.
Her godparents were her paternal grandparents, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia {Source).
According to the 1978 Spanish Constitution, since her parents have yet to produce a male heir (and likely won't, but you never know...), upon her father's succession as King of Spain in June 2014, she became Princess of Austrias and will later become Queen of Spain{Source}.
She began her education among the children of the Royal Guard at the Palace of El Pardo in 2007{Source}.She began attending Santa Maria de los Rosales, Arvaca in 2008, where she is presently in her 11th year (roughly around the 8th grade or so in the US system...I think.) at the school{Source}.
As she gets older, her parents are allowing her to take on several official duties. In August 2011, she appeared with other members of the royal family on the yacht "Somni" during the 30th Copa del Rey Audi Mapfre Sailing Cup in Palma de Mallorca {Photos}. She took part in World Youth Day celebrations at the Zarzuela Palace in August 2011 with Pope Benedict XVI in attendance {Photos}.She has attended the traditional Easter Mass in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013,2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.
In 2014, she gained a drastic change in her life-it was announced that her "abuelo" was abdicating in favor of her father...making her first in line. Since her father's enthronement, she has attended numerous events such as when her grandfather officially signed the abdication papers and her parents were enthroned, and the Spanish National Day military parade. In 2015, she attended her family's summer photocall, the 34th Copa del Rey Mapfre Sailing Cup Awards Ceremony, and the Spanish National Day military parade. In 2019, she attended a Three Kings Day ceremony with her family, attend the "Order of the Civil Merit" ceremony , visited her grandfather in the hospital, visited 'Son Marroig' museum with her parents and sister, attended the family's summer photo call, attended her first day of school, visited her principality, attended The Princess of Asturias Awards for the first time, as well as gave her second public speech delivered her second major speech at the 2019 Princess of Asturias Awards {Video}. In 2020, she kept herself busy, despite a global pandemic, she attended the opening of the 14th legislature at the Spanish Parliament, sat for a family photo call, joined her parents and sister for a Minute Of Silence For the COVID 19 Victims, attended a contemporary flamenco performance at Teatros del Canal, joined her parents, sister and grandmother for a visit to Parador of Merida, joined her family for a state ceremony to honour the 28,400 victims of the coronavirus crisis as well as those public servants who have been fighting on the front line against the pandemic in Spain, attended a mass to tribute the victims for coronavirus at La Almudena Cathedral, attended a mass for victims Of Covid-19 at la Almudena Cathedral, visited a Socio-Educational Center, began an unpredictable school year, ended up in quarantine due to one of her classmates contracting COVID19, attended the announcement of the winners of The Princess of Asturias Awards for 2020, attended the Spanish National Day Military Parade, visited The Princess of Asturias award winning city of Somao, presided over the 2020 Princess of Asturias Awards, and visited 'FPAbrica', the Old Weapon Factory of La Vega.
