Marie Mélodie de Bourbon was born 4 June 1977 as the illegitimate daughter of Princess Ines of Bourbon-Parma and an unknown father {Source}.

Her mother died when she was almost four and a half years old, and she was adopted and raised by her grandfather thirteen months later {Source}. She was a great-niece of Queen Anne of Romania, and a first cousin 1x removed of Princess Margareta, Custodian of the Royal Crown of Romania.
