Princess Maria Carolina Christina of Bourbon-Parma, Marchioness of Sala was born 23 June 1974 as the youngest child of Prince Carlos Hugo of Bourbon-Parma & Princess Irene of The Netherlands {Source}. She has two older brothers and an older sister, as well as a former brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and a current brother-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews {Source}:
Princess Maria Carolina studied in the United States, England, and The Netherlands. She holds a degree in political science from the University of Amsterdam and Harvard University. She also obtained a M.Sc. in Forced Migration from the University of Oxford. After graduation, she began working for the United Nations. She has been employed in New York, Eritrea, The Gaza Strip, Acheh, Indonesia (after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami). She currently works at the UN in Geneva, Switzerland for the Organisation for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
In January 2012, her engagment to Albert Alphons Ludgerus Brenninkmeijer was announced. They were married in April 2012 civilly, in The Netherlands. They were married religiously in Florence, Italy in June 2012. Together, they have two children:
