Royal Profile: Countess Luana van Oranje-Nassau, Jonkvrouw van Amsberg

Countess Emma Luana Ninette Sophie van Oranje-Nassau, Jonkvrouw van Amsberg was born 26 March 2006 as the elder of two daughters of Prince Friso van Oranje-Nassau and Princess Mabel van Oranje-Nassau {Source}. She has one older sister:

  • Countess Joanna Zaria Nicoline Milou van Oranje-Nassau, Jonkvrouwe van Amsberg (2005)

When she was 8 months old, she was christened with the following godparents:

  1. Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands (her paternal uncle)
  2. Eveline Wisse Smit (a former Dutch hockey player and half sister to her mother)
  3. Baroness Sophie von der Recke (her father's cousin)
  4. Emma Bonino (presumably a friend of her parents-Emma was also a bridesmaid at her parent's wedding)

Because her father did not seek parliamentary approval before marrying her mother, she is not in line for the throne of The Netherlands. By Royal Decree of 19 March 2004, nr. 126 is determined that all children of the couple will bear the title of Count (Countess) of Orange-Nassau and the honorific Jonkheer (Jonkvrouwe) van Amsberg, and have the surname Van Oranje-Nassau van Amsberg. The titles are hereditary in male lineage {Source}. She is also distantly in line for the British throne, via her ancestor William the Silent (I think-if anyone knows the connection, feel free to let me know).

Due to her parents controversial marriage, she and her sister were primarily raised in London. However, since their father's accident in 2012 and subsequent death in 2013, I believe Princess Mabel has returned with her daughters to The Netherlands.

She was named:
  • Emma: for her godmother, Emma Bonino
  • Luanna: Likely a name her parents liked
  • Ninette: Not sure
  • Sophie: for her godmother, Baroness Sophie von von der Recke
