Prince Maurits Willem Pieter Hendrik of Orange-Nassau, van Vollenhoven was born 17 April 1968 as the first child of Princess Margriet of The Netherlands and Prof. Pietre van Vollenhoven {Source}. He has three younger brothers, three sister-in-laws, as well as several nieces and nephews{Source}:

He was educated in the Netherlands, earning his WVWO diploma from Veluws College in 1987{Source}. After recieving his diploma, he went into the military from August 1987 to January 1989, he was a member of the Marine Corps and the Royal Navy{Source}. He would eventually earn the rant of lieutenant commander of the 2nd class oldest category of the Royal Navy Reserve{Source}. On 1 May 2013, he received two appointments{Source}:

  • The King's Aide in Special Service
  • Promotion to Commander of The Dutch Royal Navy.
In the 1990s, he returned to university, where he study economics at the University of Groningen, obtaining his degree in 1995{Source}. Upon his graduation, he resumed his career working as a Senior Manager Passenger Services at NV Schiphol Airport{Source}. From 2001-2006, he worked as a business manager for Philips DAP BV{Source}. Since May 2006, he became an entrepreneur with a company called The Source{Source}. From November 2009 -March 2012, he served as chairman of the Formula E team an active role in the promotion of electric vehicles in the Netherlands{Source}.
