Royal Profile: Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, The Duke of Värmland

Prince Carl Philip Edmund Bertil of Sweden, The Duke of Värmland was born 13 May 1979 as the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia {Source}. At the time of his birth, he was considered heir to the throne as Sweden did not adopt Absolute primogeniture until January 1980. He has two sisters, two brother-in-laws and two nieces and two nephews:

He mostly attended schools in Sweden, but has attended courses in England and the United States. He began his education at the Västerled Parish Preschool, which he attended from 1986-1989{Source}. He attended the State Schools of Smedslättsskolan, Ålstensskolan, and Enskilda Gymnasiet{Source}. In the 1994-1995 school year, he spent it at the Kent School {Source}. The Prince continued his studies in a science programme at Lundsbergs upper secondary school{Source}.He graduated in the spring of 1999. Recently, he studied graphic design at the Rhode Island School of Design where he worked on a museum identity design project{Source}.In 2011, Prince Carl Philip finished his studies in Agricultural and Rural Management at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp{Source}.

In his youth, he was an active outdoorsman and scout. He enjoys swimming, skiing, and football{Source}.
In 2003, he completed the historic Swedish "Vasaloppet", the longest cross country ski race in the world. He also enjoys car racing and has a licence to compete{Source}.
He has served in the the Swedish Navy{Source}. He has completed his military service at the Amphibious Battalion at Vaxholm's Coast Artillery Regiment as a combat boat commander (Combat Boat 90) in the autumn of 2000{Source}. In December 2002, the Prince was promoted to fänrik (midshipman), and in 2004 to the rank of löjtnant (sub-lieutenant) in the Swedish Navy{Source}. In 2007 and 2008 he went to the Swedish National Defense College{Source}. The course was divided in three weeks autumn 2007 and three weeks spring 2008. After that course he was appointed kapten in the Swedish Navy (lieutenant).

For his mother's 60th birthday in 2003, he designed a cover for a CD of the music of Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker, which was released to honor of her landmark birthday, in which the proceeds from it goes to the World Childhood Foundation{Source}.In 2004, the Prince created a calendar, together with an advertising agency, that will be sold to benefit the same organisation{Source}.

Since April 2010, he has been linked with model Sofia Hellqvist. He and Hellqvist have been residing together since April 2011. Hellqvist also joins him at major family events, such as his sister's wedding and niece's baptism. They were married in 2015, and welcomed their first child in April 2016, and a second son in September 2017{Source}:

He lives in a country home in Värmland, Sweden. He also inherited Villa Solbacken, upon the death of his great-aunt in 2013. He holds several Swedish national honors and international honors. These include:

As a third cousins once removed from Queen Elizabeth, he is in line for the British throne. In the line for the British throne, he is ahead of his sister and her daughter.
