Royal Profile: HRH Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand
Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand was born 4 July 1957 in Banock, Thailand the youngest daughter of of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej and HM Queen Sirikit of Thailand.
She studied Chemistry and graduated in 1979 from the Faculty of Science at Kasetsart University, with a Bachelor of Science,First Class Honours. She continued to study Science at Mahidol University, where she received her Doctorate in 1985.
She married Royal Thai Air Force Air Vice Marshal Virayudh Tishyasarin, a commoner, in 1982. According to royal custom, she would lose her title when marrying a man of lesser position. However, she was granted a special permission by her father to keep her rank of Chao Fa. From this marriage, which eventually ended in divorce, she has two daughters:
Currently, she has been in a relationship with Chaichon Locharernkul (M.D), a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, of which the Princess herself has specialization in epileptology. They often appear together in public places both in Thailand and abroad, but a formal engagement between him and the Princess has not been made public nor has it been made official. He has always accompanied her, as Chulabhorn continues to be involved in many areas and travels extensively abroad as well, mostly in Asia and the Pacific region.
