Royal Profile: Don Felipe Juan de Marichalar y Borbón

Don Felipe Juan de Marichalar y Borbón was born 17 July 1998, the eldest son of Infanta Elena and Don Jaime de Marichalar. He has one younger sister, Doña Victoria Federica de Todos los Santos de Marichalar y de Borbón. He is in 5th line for the Spanish throne after his mother. His godparents were his grandfather, King Juan Carlos of Spain and his paternal grandmother, Doña Concepción Sáez de Tejada.

He was named:

  • Felipe: after his uncle, King Felipe VI
  • Juan: after his great-grandfather the Count of Barcelona
  • Froilán: after the patron saint of Lugo (his parents were the Duke and Duchess of Lugo, now just his mother retains the title-his father lost it in the divorce in 2009)
  • Todos los Santos: as it is customary among the Bourbons

Felipe Juan Froilán currently attends the Santa Maria del Pilar School in Madrid {Source}.

His parents divorced in 2009.

On April 9, 2012 Felipe, while he was on a farm of his father's family in Garray (Soria), accidentally shot himself himself in his left foot{Source}. His father had to declare to the Civil Guard because Spanish law does not permit to use firearms to people under 14{Source}. The judge dismissed the case against Don Jaime de Marichalar, considering it not negligence but a misdemeanor {Source}.

He is a member of the Spanish Royal Family, but is no longer considered a member of the Royal House. On occasion, he does appear publicly on behalf of his family, often with his mother and sister, and have included hospital visits after the death of his paternal grandmother in March 2014 and the numerous times King Juan Carlos I was in the hospital in the last few years. Together, with his mother and sister, they attended the 2012 London Olympics {Photos} and the 2011 Bullfighting Autumn Fair {Photos}. In 2014, he was spotted attending his uncle's enthronement and grandfather's abdication ceremony with his mother {Video spotted for the 1st time next to his mother at approximately :31}.
