Royal Profile: Prince Joachim of Denmark, Count of Monpezat

Prince Joachim Holger Waldemar Christian of Denmark, Count of Monpezat was born on 7 June 1969, and is the son of Queen Margrethe II & Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark{Source}.
He is included in the order of succession to the Throne in 5th place after his brother, two nephews and two nieces and may act as Regent when HM The Queen and HRH Crown Prince Frederik are abroad{Source}.

He was married the first time to Alexandra Christina Manley, now Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg on 18 November 1995 {Source}.  Sadly, after several years and two children, the marriage ended in separation and divorce in September 2004{Source}. The young prince was primarily educated in Denmark and France, but also studied in Australia {Source}. Prince Joachim’s military education began in 1987 when he was a recruit in the Queen's Own Regiment{Source}. In 1988, Prince Joachim was appointed as a sergeant, and in 1989, he was appointed as a lieutenant of the reserve{Source}.  After becoming a lieutenant, Prince Joachim served as a Platoon Commander of a tank squadron in the Prince's Own Regiment from 1989 to 1990{Source}.
In 1990, Prince Joachim was appointed a first lieutenant of the reserve and in 1992, after completion of advanced training level I for officers of the reserve (VUT I), came his appointment as a captain of the reserve{Source}. From 1996 to 2004, Prince Joachim was the commander of a tank squadron in the mobilization force of the Prince's Own Regiment and, from 2005, was attached to the Danish Division’s staff as a major of the reserve{Source}. Following appointment as a lieutenant colonel of the reserve in 2011, Prince Joachim was designated as the chief of the Liaison Officers Group in Total Defence Region Fyn, Syd and Sønderjylland{Source}. In September 2019, he will begin a course at France's highest-ranking military training facility{Source}

In addition to his agricultural background, Prince Joachim worked for the A.P. Møller Maersk Group in Hong Kong and France, respectively, from 1993 to 1995 in order to broaden his business experience{Source}.  Today, the Prince operates Schackenborg Manor, which has been in his possession since 1978{Source}. In 1993, Prince Joachim took over the estate of Schackenborg Castle in the town of Møgeltønder, in Southern Jutland{Source}. After his first marriage, he and his wife received 13 million Danish kroner (Roughly 1,740,7 million euros or 1,954,940 USD)collected by the people of Denmark as a national gift, reserved for restoration of the estate. The restoration was finished in 1999. In 2014, the estate was handed over to the Schackenborg Foundation, which consists of Prince Joachim, Bitten and Mads Clausens foundation, Ole Kirks Foundation, and Ecco Holding. Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and their children moved from the castle to Klampenborg north of Copenhagen.
