Royal Profile: Prince Nicolas, The Duke of Angermanland

Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf, The Duke of Angermanland was born 15 June 2015 as the second child and eldest son of Princess Madeleine of Sweden & Christopher Paul O'Neill {Source}. He has two sisters{Source}:
At his birth, he was fifth in succession for the Swedish throne after his big sister, however, with the births of his cousins Prince Oscar and Prince Alexander in 2016 and Prince Gabriel in 2017, he is currently 9th in succession {Source}.

On 11 October 2015, he was christened with the following as his godparents{Source}:
  1. Prince Carl Philip, The Duke of Värmland (maternal uncle)
  2. Countess Natascha Abensperg und Traun (paternal half-aunt)
  3. Henry d'Abo (patenral half-uncle by marriage)
  4. Gustaf Magnuson (maternal cousin 1x removed)
  5. Katarina von Horn (friend of his mother's)
  6. Marco Wajselfisz (friend of his father's)
As a great-great-great-great-great grandson of Queen Victoria, he is also distantly in line for the British throne {Source}. He is related to nearly every current reigning monarch:

  1. Denmark: His grandfather is 1st cousins with Queen Margrethe II, making him a first cousin 2x removed
  2. The Netherlands: His grandfather is Princess Beatrix's 3rd cousin, making her a 3rd cousin twiceremoved from Prince Nicholas. Same with the Luxembourg Grand Ducal family
  3. Liechtenstein: His grandfather is Prince Hans Adam II's 6th cousin, making him a 6th cousin twice removed.
  4. Monaco: His grandfather is is a 7th cousin of Prince Albert II, making him a 7th cousin twice removed.
  5. United Kingdom: His grandfather is a 3rd cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, making Nicholas a third cousin twice removed of the Queen. This is on both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's sides of Queen Elizabeth's family.
  6. Greece : Queen Anne-Marie is his first cousin 2x removed
  7. Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg: Princess Benedikte is her first cousin 2x removed

Although only a young child, he has already done his fair share of royal duties. In May 2016, he attended his cousin, Prince Oscar's christening with his mother, sister and father {Photos}. That September, he attended his other cousin, Prince Alexander's christening {Photos}. In 2018, he was present at his little sister's christening

He leads a pretty international life. He primarilaly resides in Florida in the United States with his family, but also frequents London, and Sweden with his family.

In October 2019, when he announced that she, her older siblings, and cousins Prince Gabriel and Prince Alexander would loose their status as members of Sweden's Royal House, thus loosing their HRH and "Of Sweden" designation. This decision was made in order to privatize their lives, and designate who would or wouldn't be expected to perform royal duties in the future as 8th in succession for the throne, Adrienne is unexpected to take on any future role within the monarchy {Source}. This decision did not effect her cousins Estelle and Oscar as they are children of the Crown Princess Couple, and thus will likely be expected to perform duties in the future-with Estelle acting as Sweden's Queen someday.

His name comes from:
  1. Nicolas: Likely a name his parents liked.
  2. Paul: For his paternal grandfather, Paul O'Neill, who died in 2004
  3. Gustaf: For his maternal grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf and his godfather, Gustaf Magnuson.
